One Way Road
A film by Kevin Gerth
The film opens up with a scene of a strapping young lad named Dave printing out a extensive map of the east coast and all of the places they have to stop at. It then switches to him driving his van to his friends house where he meets up with the whole band and his girlfriend of 8 months. He says his goodbyes to his girlfriend while the band is mocking him and telling him to hurry up cause they are wasting precious time. He says to her that he loves her and that he will be back in a month. *fade away into the van driving down the highway* The whole group is excited and there is a hopeful feeling coursing through everyone. Dave talks to all the band members, and you get a little information about each one. You then find out that Dave’s two best friends are in the band which is why he is going on tour with them. All of the different band members are named Tim who does vocals, Ryan on lead guitar, Matt on rhythm guitar, Dan on bass, and John playing the drums. Tim and Ryan are Dave’s best friends and just want him to have a good time with the rest of them and not have him worry about his girlfriend. The central conflict comes from Dave wanting to have fun and enjoy the tour and the time away from everyone, but he doesn’t want to hurt his girlfriend named Amber. He ends up deciding that he is going to go out and party and try to keep the fact that he has Amber back at home waiting for him and that he doesn’t want to ruin that. As time goes on Tim, Ryan, and the rest of the band try to get him to loosen up and forget about Amber and do whatever he wants to get maximum enjoyment while on tour to keep all the hopes high. At the second to last show they play he sees this girl that he thinks is very attractive and he is instantly attracted to named Krista. And from what he can tell she is attracted to him cause she goes up to him and starts conversation multiple times and doesn’t stop staring at him throughout the show. After that show at a party that the whole band goes to he sees the girl and she yet again goes up to him to start conversation. And yet again he engages in conversation with her. Within a few minutes he starts drinking and he keeps drinking even when he knows he is past his personal limits. All of a sudden the camera swirls around getting blurry, and everything goes black. He wakes up hungover, confused, disoriented, and careful not to disturb anyone. He then rolls over and sees that he is mostly naked and was laying next to Krista. He then freaks out inside of his head. He instantly starts questioning himself and after a few moments he convinces himself that he was able to stay faithful even though he was drunk and blacked out. After a little bit Krista wakes up and he asks her what happened last night. She proceeds to tell him that they hooked up and that he never mentioned anything about a girlfriend back at home. At that moment a million different thoughts are racing through his mind, and he decides that he needs to tell Amber and whatever happens happens. When he tells her she yells, cries, screams, and eventually breaks up with him. After that for the short remainder of the tour he just sulks in the van and doesn’t go out of his way to talk to anyone new and he is a downer for the rest of the band. They return home in Massachusetts and he just tries to go on with his life and not talk to Amber or Krista and the movie ends in a sad shot of Dave sitting on his bed with his head in his hands and a bottle of beer on the night stand and in the window next to his bed you see a street sign that says ONE WAY ROAD. *zoom in on the sign* *cut to credits*
